Just updated this 2021 post on #opensource #PDF processing tools, and added a section on the Arlington Model PDF Checker (IMO the Arlington Model is really where the future of PDF validation is at):

@tallison Incidentally I still have an unfinished 2023 draft somewhere of a post I intended to write on the future of PDF validation, with the provisional (but perhaps too provocative?) title "let's kill PDF-hul!" (which is the name of JHOVE's PDF module).

Perhaps I should dig this up and finish that post anyway (and probably step on various people's toes in the process!).
