The story from #OpenStreetMap right now: a multi-day outage due to an upstream failure is expected to continue through Wednesday. They paid for multiple redundant links from their well-known T1 ISP, but they both went to the same router which failed without an on-site backup. So the ISP is shipping a new one from California with no estimated time of restoration. The only connection they have to the database is an out-of-band 4G modem, and the failover site doesn't have a complete database copy.

The OSM Foundation operates on a shoestring budget and doesn't have a huge operations team. They also began the process of transitioning to a different ISP last week, but don't have the fiber hardware to connect there yet, though they're also hoping for that in the next 1-2 days.

After a 68 hour outage, the original ISP has now restored service. Before the outage, OSM intended to use both ISPs for about 6 months.

@anticomposite hang on, I might have misunderstood something here earlier

“they both went to the same router” – OSM’s router or ISP’s router?

@LucasWerkmeister ISP's router. The OSM infrastructure is redundant, and they have spares in the Dublin datacenter. The ISP had to fly new hardware from California to Amsterdam.
