The Plausible site saw a surge of 2.2K% in AI-referred traffic in 2024.

We analyzed this traffic in the Plausible dashboard to figure out what worked for us. 🧵

We looked at the Entry Pages to correlate with what subject was being discussed in those AI chats before the visitor came to Plausible.

The clear winner is our homepage and from our SEO data, support chats, and social media mentions –– we know that Plausible is usually mentioned in the following discussions:

• Privacy-friendly analytics,

• GDPR compliance & no need for cookie consent banners

• Open-source

• Our data processing methods

• Simpler alternative to GA4

• Lightweight

We confirmed first-hand with AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Perplexity that they were indeed referring Plausible in their chats.

To see if the traffic we were getting from AI channels was qualified, we saw two things:

• What did they do on the site? aka Top Pages report

• Were any conversions met from this? aka Goal conversions

The second-most visited page in AI-acquired sessions was the free trial registration page, followed by other product-specific pages like documentation, activating sites on Plausible, etc.
