Hey astrophotography and Linux nerds, what would be the best distro to use for a remote PC to be attached to my outside rig to feed my data back to my laptop. Remote is small display PC that I can power outside with astro battery rig.

@GranVegas Have a look at the https://globalmeteornetwork.org/ people, who do this with a bunch of python talking to the camera for meteor detection; they have a raspbian based image for pre-installed purposes, but also have a lot of documentation on system load & sizing ...

@GranVegas I'd also recommend joining the GMN effort, you're likely to find a local organisation who will sell a pre-built kit ... it costs more $$$ than doing it yourself, but it gives you a solid base to use to learn more about the potential troubles.
The biggest weakness with their kit for me has been the power-over-ethernet requirement for the camera itself; the cheap PoE injectors and the lack of inline voltage protection for the camera didn't combine well, but eventually I was able to free up space on a proper PoE network switch that I had for other reasons, and everything has been stable from there.
My next planned improvement will be to replace the current raspberrypi machine with something running on a "proper computer", but that of course implies a greater power consumption, which some may be concerned about.
