I just had a really weird thought. What if NVDA had a generic settings ring? You know, like the synth settings ring, but for other random stuff? Kinda like the rotor on iOS or similar. You can choose what settings go in there and then you use one set of finger twisting set of combinations of keys to modify a whole group of settings rather than assigning a bunch of individual settings to multiple different singular finger twistingly complicated hotkeys.

back in my day, you could assign a key to, like, a one or two modifier wide keystroke. Nuh uh, no longer! Now, to go up and down buffers in an invisible client, for example, you need at least 3, modifiers, unless you want to use alt shift, and then, you use alt shift for that, but then you'd need to use 3 modifiers for some other thing that wanted to use the arrows with some form of global modifier. Because why wouldn't you want to open linked in or snap windows around the place with non-removable hotkeys! Totally going to help me as a blind person to snap windows I can't even see into corners of my in one case, nonexistent monitor.

not to mention, keyboards these days man, some keyboards won't even let you push certain key combinations. On my GPD pocket, for example, I can't do capslock shift right arrow, the keystroke to go to the next item with object navigation in NVDA.

That's such a weird, weird limitation that I've never really understood.

Like, I can physically press the keys just fine, but they don't register! It registres the capslock shift part just fine, but right arrow? Nope, nuh uh, you can slap it all day. However, if I use capslock, right shift, right arrow? It works just fine! Such madness.

let's not even talk about how awkward it is trying to press capslock right shift right arrow on the GPD pocket, though.
