@hazelnoot@enby.life I'm not happy with idea protectors are frozen in time. Trust me, they can adapt and evolve & even choose to step away and rest (I hope, I don't want ours to be gone even though we don't need much protecting any more) but beyond that how did that first graphic know about my life ?

@hazelnoot@enby.life hell, most of it is as about me as it is about... (you? Or anyone it applies to)

@Toni2167@transfem.social yes, great point. It's not mentioned in that article, but others on the site expand on it a bit. Protectors are often "stuck" in their role and get "frozen" like that, but they'll move on to other things once they believe it's safe to do so.

@Toni2167@transfem.social ngl I really love the IFS principle that "there are no bad parts". Even if a part is hurting the system, it's not because that part is "bad" or broken. They're just misguided and believe they're doing the right thing, and they should be accepted and embraced anyway.

@hazelnoot@enby.life Yeah. They need help adjusting their behavior or thinking sometimes but they're as valid and worthy as anyone else.

@hazelnoot@enby.life Took mine about 34 years but he managed. Come to think of it only after we showed we could be okay without him.

Of course had he let us be aware of one another we might have gotten there sooner but that's not his fault. We weren't in a situation where it was safe until we found plural friends online and could learn from them.

@Toni2167@transfem.social I can understand being hesitant to let go, after decades of being responsible for your safety. Seems like it comes from a place of care and concern πŸ’™

@hazelnoot@enby.life Definitely. He was a good friend who just wanted to keep us safe.

@hazelnoot

I have some plural friends so I’m trying to learn more about it, but I confess, I’m kind of struggling to differentiate it from c-PTSD sometimes.

I think they each make a lot of sense, but I assume it probably doesn’t all apply to every plural system / person / experience?
