For people outside the US, this is a classic example and by no means a rarity.

@VeroniqueB99 I donβt understand how the US insurance system can fail at such a classic case while the same case in Germany just works.
In Germany, after the cancer is defeated, you can continue building your life almost from the same financial position you had before cancer.
That is what happened in my family, and the insurance and the pension system even paid for rehab.
No life savings lost, because protection against such high damage, low probability risks is just what insurance is for.

@ArneBab It works in EVERY other democratic country.
In France, you'd paid NOTHING if you have cancer. Period. Not the chemo, not the operations/radiation, hospitaliztion $0. There are so many countries that place health as a human right but not the US. π€·ββοΈ

@VeroniqueB99 @ArneBab this is not true in the UK by a far stretch anymore.
Sure the NHS does what it can but people do absolutely die waiting for the underfunded system to get to them.
What's the proposed solution? Private health care. I kid you not.

@VeroniqueB99 @markus @ArneBab The news tells people they want to leave the EU, they want to leave the EU. The news tells them they want private healthcare, they all start saying they want private healthcare. smh watching it. Just enough didn't buy it, just enough to elect Labour, but I don't fancy our chances with Musk and <checks '90s Neighbours IMDB page> Holly Valance for some reason moving on us like a bitch.

@VeroniqueB99 @markus @ArneBab Well, it's still far better than the States (and boy am I being schooled just how much this week π³), and I still count our blessings (the tabloid induced braying has quietened down on that front at least), just fear we'll still end up like the States.

I really hope you guys become more 'european' rather than 'americans' for all your sakes... I've heard stories about UK hospitals that made me shudder... π€

@VeroniqueB99 @markus @ArneBab That's exactly my hope. I mean we were, but... damn nationalists.
It's a funny thing, either side of Europe you've got these two imperial embers, Britain and Russia, fighting tooth and nail not to be part of the continent they're on, to be something special, superior, yet every effort in that respect only causes grief, hardship and conflict.

@VeroniqueB99 @markus @ArneBab And yet they could be greater - modern, progressive, advanced. It's not even like they were that fixated on the past, Britain at least, it seemed we were largely getting past it, and then the bitter, the small minded, the decrepit, the weasely hateful few consciously and actively dragged us back in a pointless, senseless monumental act of mindless vandalism.

@VeroniqueB99 @markus @ArneBab If you don't know it, this is an excellent analysis of Russia's "identity crisis" as Vexler puts it, pinpointed in Nikolai Gogol's novel, Dead Souls.
