Has anyone figured out a good way to purchase a digital good from an untrusted party?
I'm probably talking to a scammer but this is about an #38c3 ticket so I'm willing to at least look into it.

Here's me hoping some actual real person still has an actual real #38c3 ticket to sell.

Yes, they started scamming today. #38c8tickets
But if you have a reason not to be suspicious, escrow services exist, they usually take a 20-30 EUR fee in exchange for offering a third party account and dispute settlement - i.e. the other side doesn't get to see money until you confirm the receipt of the goods in good condition (e.g. ticket accepted by the entrance).

@relet @exterm May I know if you have had good experiences with any of these escrow services (especially related to the congress) and recommend them to others?

I have used one (years ago, so I can't drop names or recommendations) for ordering music instruments. Had one case of dispute and return. Got the money back.
So I'm happy to have used escrow, although I don't know how long the process takes if the other side is really uncooperative or lies and cheats.
I think the main value might be to deter actors that know they are frauds, because there will be no way to get hold of any money.

@relet @itachai Yeah, I’ve had two people reach out that just blankly refused to use an escrow service, so it’s working alright.
