I really like Alby Hub! While the “Albypocalypse” predicted by @adam and @dave (with 99% of users dropping) might still happen, maybe it could turn out to be a storm in a teacup. (or something in between)

Man, I was thinking this exact same thing this morning. Now that I know how easy and inexpensive it is to transition over, I can't find any valid reasons for any listener with a reliable home internet connection to not install Alby Hub on their PC. According to @ChadF , they don't even need a dedicated machine.

Maybe we don't need to figure out 'easier' alternative wallets, we just need to train listeners on how to host their own wallet. After going through the experience, it's no more difficult than figuring out how to navigate Strike or CashApp.

Remember when you had to tell them how to click the RSS symbol to load a feed. It's like that except now they need to be walked through setting up a Alby Hub node on their own device.

Only downside to running it on your main PC is that you have to leave it on 24/7.

Alby has always echoed the same philosophy we have. People are just cheap and lazy.

I love the apps StevenB, Franco, Mitch and Jason make so why wouldn’t I shoulder some of the expense and burden?

Existing listeners are being left out with this AlbyHub isn’t an option BS and it makes me BOOSTING mad. Good luck onboarding new users when the existing ones are all gone.

As a reminder, podcasting "took off" because apple introduced a simple way to subscribe with one click. This was before the iPhone.

Then the podcast app made it even easier.

People are not lazy. They have been conditioned for ease of use.

Connecting your bank or PayPal, cashapp venmo or initially strike is something people understand.

All these apps will be introducing lightning payments.

@adam @ChadF @StevenB @dave 100% agree Adam, but Strike not being available in my country, PayPal and Venmo maybe will one day who knows, everything tells me maybe times are not mature for the normies, let's hope AlbyHub works for some of them.

I’m just trying to help out 2 of my favorite app devs with my experience as a listener using AlbyHub. 😔

I agree with Franco, maybe the normies aren't ready for this. There's no easy solutions yet, and when there are easy solutions, it will be just like when Apple made podcasting easy, they get to set all the rules. We don't even know if Strike will let amateur apps have dev keys, so their easy lnurl api may not even work for most of us. I'm hoping my intuition is wrong about this one, but my gut says they won't give them out to some rando web developer.

Oscar's demo shows that you can easily connect your strike wallet to a third party app. I don't think you need any specific developer status.

It's definitely a possibility I'm misunderstanding something, but from what I understand, to use @merryoscar's Pod Pay Demo, you need to use oauth and have the oauth keys from Strike. To get the oauth keys from Strike, you need a Strike Business account.

Every strike account can create and use their own api key

Your Strike account keys are different from Strike oauth keys. You need a business account to create oauth keys. I just created some api keys, there's no redirect url with the account api keys.

Gotcha. Let's await an answer from Oscar if a business account is needed.

I'm not partial to strike BTW, any lnurlp solution is fine.

Lnbits is another option. Users can chose their own funding source, including your own node or even strike

And there is all the breez SDK for apps
