Thirty years ago today, on Dec 8, 1994, X3J13 approved ANSI Common Lisp. Forty years ago, in 1984, Digital Press published the first edition of the book Common LISP: The Language by G.L. Steele, aka CLtL1.

@drj 👆 Prompted by the 40th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of Common LISP: The Language by G.L. Steele, David Jones @drj commented and contrasted the design and typography of the covers of the book's two editions.

@amoroso @drj @FontsInUse My copy of CLtL2 has a green kind of cover, very different from the grey on in the picture. Was there more than one edition?

@loke Maybe that copy was for a different market? Sometimes publishers print different formats and designs for different markets.

@loke @amoroso @FontsInUse maybe mine has faded and the original pale cyan was greener? (not likely tho, it's been on the bookshelf for a bazillion years.

@loke @amoroso @FontsInUse You know, those colours do seem familiar, i wonder if they were more common in my Harlequin days (i didn't work directly on HCL). Mine is (C) 1990 Butterworth-Heinemann. But that publisher page is slightly different. Mine is a 6th printing, and doesn't have the quite useful info on the designer. But is the same ISBN.
Because of a weirdness, i know that mine was bought in the Quantum Books in CC in July 1994 :)
