@rebeccafinn Hi - thanks for asking. I've contacted the person who drew it for the challenge. He said that the association you had was unintended. He was trying to find something different from a festive theme, as that didn't get lots of submissions previously. He then looked for an idea (that hasn't been done), thought of a hat, saw a photograph of a red baseball cap & thought "I can draw that". There is no deep meaning to it. Noone on the team caught it, either - we're not from the US.

@inkscape thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm not American either, though current events make it difficult for me to see the context of the imagery to be anything else.
