I've been using Libreoffice with Windows for years and can attest to it being pretty much equal to MS Word ... and far cheaper :)

Easy to convert Word documents to ODT too ...

Has a few frustrating things ... but for the price I can live with that.

Been going to get involved but haven't found the time yet ... maybe in my older age :)
