Problems:

Briefly, Americans pay a lot and get poor outcomes due to

• expensive medical care, from procedures and medications to medical personnel salaries

• poor health status caused by agricultural policy, public policy, poor regulation of toxic substances, inadequate education, non-walkable living spaces, racism causing incredible stress, etc. you get my point

• high administrative costs of private insurance, some of which is paying people to refuse things that make no sense.

I have not worked extensively with private insurance. My colleagues and patients tell me terrible stores and I believe them.

I also know some of my colleagues order procedures, tests, and medications that aren't necessary or useful.

So I'm torn. I don't know how many people die from being refused care. That is VERY hard to figure out as not all care saves lives.

I think in this discussion we should not forget to promote the things that result in HEALTHY people.
