OK, new instance, so new #Introduction

I'm a middle-aged gay guy in the metro Detroit region. I'm a polymath: undergraduate degrees in #chemistry and #classics; master's degrees in #classics (specifically #Greek), #Library and #InformationScience, and #history. Completed the coursework for a Ph.D. in history as well, but then moved halfway across the country for a new job and had to give it up.

Politically, I'm an extreme liberal. I usually vote Democratic because that's the best of the bad choices available to me - but they're far too centrist for my tastes. Democratic socialist is probably closest.

As you might guess from my header image, I #read. A lot. Usually around 100 books a year, ranging across the spectrum from history to fantasy, science to sci-fi, fiction, biography, romance (queer variety), religion, philosophy.

I also love to #travel. A lot. And when I do, I tend to take a lot of #photos. The profile pic, taken by my best friend from college, was taken a couple of years ago at the tippy top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park (elevation 12,005 feet above sea level - that's 3,659 meters for all y'all in the rest of the world).

I grew up in #Illinois, moved to #Colorado for my first master's, then back to Illinois, then to #Maryland for a few years while I was working in DC, then back to Colorado. Sevem years ago, I moved to #Michigan, and I like it here.

History-wise, my major field is in modern #Europe. Specifically, the first half of the twentieth century (so, largely, the First and Second World Wars and the years between them). Secondary fields in #medieval, #gender and #sexuality, #citizenship and #nationality, and #queer history.
