Does anyone think pCloud is worth it? It's a big cost up front, but 400USD for 2TB of storage is not bad. Someone on the forum shared a referral link, and it does seem nice to have since it's not a subscription. Would the Encryption add-on be worth the extra money?

@Rich As someone who deals with this kind of storage stuff for a living, I wouldn't trust a lifetime sale for a product that is a service. I'd recommend you get a home NAS drive. That's actually a one-time purchase and you have your stuff.

@coldfish Easier said than done. I'm not the one that pays for the wi-fi, we have data caps, and there's no easy way to access outlets where the router is set up.

@Rich yes, synology has a "quickconnect" feature that actually bypasses the router. so, I picked "morrisdev" as my quickconnect name, I can go to: https://morrisdev.quickconnect.to/
and it kind of hooks me up to my synology.
There's also "Drive" which is like one-drive, that runs in the background, just like one-drive. and syncs up with the synology.
Anyway. I've been using them for years. It's pretty easy to set up and once you have it, you have it.

@Rich note: think about storage units that you'd put actual stuff in. Amazon, Google and Microsoft are all like big commercial companies with insurance and security standards and other stuff. But, if some guy with a few box-trucks in a parking lot offered to hold all your stuff in storage for a flat one-time fee..... well.... you'd be suspicious. You know?

Probably perfectly legit people, but just a small office in a foreign nation. They don't have servers, they're simply sending your data elsewhere and paying a small fee each month.
Azure, for example, is less than 2 cent/month/gig They'll redirect your data there. But if they go out of business, your data is just in the wind.
