The compulsory 10% proposal was far too crude to be useful and would have led to a questionable quality of outcomes. Given the impact on wildlife of the mass grubbing-up of orchards and the air miles involved in our fruit supply I wonder why no thought ever seems to be given to incentivising the replanting of orchards as a side crop (and to support essential pollinators).
