A while back I read an article saying that Truth Social was less appealing to even the far right - it was no fun because they didn’t have anyone to harass.
Recently, I read an article about certain nations being concerned about who was abandoning X. They have invested massive amounts to “game” X in order to spread their influence.
The ability to moderate malicious posts should always be important.
But moderation will always be a game of whack-a-mole - it will never be enough. Equally important is the idea that a post should spread only because enough people really believe in it. And most social networks have a business model that demands ever increasing engagement - a model that is in conflict with managing the civility of its content. As long as that model exists, there will be those who will try to optimize that model for their own benefit.
Can you have a “civil” social network if the underlying business model requires unending growth?
