@frenck waiting for the inevitable "you had backups" and "if you never tested them they're not backups" comments...

Good luck, and I hope you haven't lost anything important!

@greem Hehe I don't do backups...

I know, of course. Ironically enough, I bought a NAS for backup purposes yesterday. It's out for delivery today. :sadmsn:

and today (OF ALL F-ING DAYS) it decides to die.

It seems like the root volume is the issue, so I hopefully can get to the data volume.

All my work is open source, so everything is on git. But I have some POCs and WIPs that I like to get my hands on.

@frenck Argh! It's always the way. "$thing rarely happens, I should plan for it" is an immediate way to summon $thing ๐Ÿ˜

Keeping my fingers crossed you get your data back ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

And thanks, by the way, for HA. It's an amazing piece of work.

@frenck @greem Backups certainly are nice, but they don't really help with that frustrating downtime :-/

I ended up compromising on total capacity at the same budget in favour of having all downtime-causing drives be mirrors. It may be lazy, but it's effective :)

Less important side effect of faster reads. Similarly I set up ram caches and mount write-heavy paths on ram disks - all to reduce drive wear, with side effects of speed.

@frenck Ugh. You might be able to get a nice deal somewhere though, but finding a drive on saturday might be annoying. Unless you live near a store...

@frenck Had an issue with one of 3 SSDs on Proxmox recently. It still happened after I got it replaced. ChatGPT helped me test it with different power saving settings and it led me to discover it wasโ€ฆPSU.
