Prior to #SQL, everything was
[#]NoSQL. That's why we have SQL.
Recently, when I wrote that, someone replied that I can't be old enough to know what it was like before SQL was invented in the 1970s.
Many people today are no longer aware that reading is for things other than social media posts or headlines that confirm your biases.

@ovid What you write can easily be verified by taking a look at structured #COBOL variables. This is possible even for members of Gen Z.

@ovid what i often encounter is the "why would a database be faster/better just because it's organised around an old language??"
Well, i had the RDB course at uni and learned about relational algebra.
It's almost like a lot of these things that've stuck for a long time, are not just shallow ideas someone randomly conceived of, but actually something that has been put significant thought into.🤓
But obviously nosql is better because it's webscale. 😖
...Whatever that means

@ovid “MongoDB’s popularity among managers during its peak was largely down to the idea that you no longer needed a database expert. Just throw the data into the document DB puddle and let your existing less-specialised developers handle it. The promise of the document database during the peak of their hype was that you didn’t need to employ as many specialists.”
Also: there are always people who’ll turn BS into a cult and start worshipping it.
