@mixael The eradication of smallpox in the wild truly made me feel as though humanity had achieved godlike status. We had grabbed the evil genie by the neck and shoved it back in the bottle. We could do anything. It was a far greater accomplishment than the moon shot.

To sink from that to today is unutterably painful.
