Anybody use #Obsidian and the #PARAmethod? When it comes to files that might be in an area or Resources, and then a related project starts and is eventually completed, do you prefer moving relevant files around or linking to them?

Let's say I have a "Filmmaking” area with some files about green screen techniques. I'm starting a new film project where I'll be using green screen, so those files are relevant.

Would you move the files into that project and then move them back into the area when the project is done? Or would you create a file in the project that contains links to those files?

I realize both ways are legit and am just curious if anyone has found one particular way more useful or convenient.

@TfTHacker @AnthonyBaker I'd love to know if you have any thoughts on this.

@andrewortwein Hmmm. good question. In this case if they are reference files for other projects, I might keep them there and link to them. But again, for active projects, I really like to have everything in one place.

@TfTHacker Thanks, I'm leaning toward moving them around also and hearing someone else do that helps. The two things that give me hesitation are:

  1. As you mentioned, could get tricky if I have multiple projects referencing a file

  1. I'm considering categorizing Archive files in folders (e.g. “People”). If I move any files within those folders, I kind of lose their categorization until I put them back. But this might be me overthinking the system. Do I really need those categorized subfolders?

@andrewortwein I do use PARA. To be honest, I can't say I am 100% consistent. However, when it is a project, I keep everything related to the project in one folder. It just speeds up the work. After the project is done, I audit the files and put any artifact into reference or archive. I also aggressively delete. I dont like to keep something unless I know for sure it will be useful in the future.

@TfTHacker I like this notion of having an intentional post-project audit
