Fuck Itch. Fuck Bandcamp. Both of them have stopped paying me for my sales with no recourse. Of course people can still pay for my art there. I just don't get any of it.

Like fuck, Steam sucks but at least they give me crumbs of my earnings.

@mayazimmerman I mean, only share if you wanna 😅 Don't mean to be pressuring you for something that might be fraught and/or private. I'm just sorry to hear that

@mxashlynn Basically, I initiated a payment with Itch in August and I've gotten one response from them in September about it.

Meanwhile, Bandcamp just straight up did not pay me for sales last month and there is no way to reach out to them on the site (there is actually a note that says they aren't offering customer support because they have too many emails to deal with).

Bandcamp is a lost cause because it was devoured by vc ghouls, but with Itch, it's just more pathetic than anything.

I think the payment issue may be related to paypal (not sure how; it's the same account they've paid before, plenty of times, and I've received business payments to the account since), so in many ways, this is a "me problem" but if this is the way my problem is being handled, it's a bad sign of how things are being handled generally by both of these companies.

@mxashlynn I guess they need my album sales to pay for employees to read all these emails

@mayazimmerman Ugh, that's some USA landlord BS. -_-

I'm saddened to hear that Itch is having these issues as I've had a positive experience with them for years and they're not entangled in the larger capitalist snare as far as I knew. Clearly they need to do better!

It really bites that BandCamp has become so rotten. It was my #1 source for music purchases since like 2013ish, but ever since Epic bought it I was expecting things to go bad so I try to find other ways to support artists these days.

In both cases, it's outrageous in a particularly '20s kind of way that companies collect money "on behalf of" creators that they can just keep for themselves without any repercussions.

It's funny that you mention Steam, tho, cause they are the company that did this to a team I was on. I don't think they get many sales from our old games anymore, but whatever sales they do get they keep 100% of.

Siiigh, I hope they fix this mess and do better by you!

@mxashlynn Thanks. Yeah, it definitely is a flavor of the 2020s tech dystopia we're in.

On the plus side, it got me to make a website and I'm going to try to make it a place for my art at some point.
