OK internet, what do you do about the thing where you plug or unplug an external display and your macOS desktop icons all relocate in unhelpful ways? (Asking for what you in particular actually do, not all the hypothetical options)

@easeout I do this many times per day, but I keep very little on the desktop…

@mattiem That would work if only my cleanup diligence cycle were so short. I like about two things on the desktop but it's normally around 10-20. If I kept it under 5 I would dodge the conflict between rearrangement pinning items to corners and new items appearing in wrapped columns.
