Hi all, I just moved here from sigmoid.social (and from mastodon.social before that) in the hope of better engagement.
By way of an intro, I'm a professor at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and lead instructor of the popular (over 1.4M users), free online course Elements of AI. I'm interested in AI, data science, Bayesian probability, cooking, running, and dad jokes.

@troos
I cant see your details as you're in a different instance, and I don't know if you're looking for very specific engagement. Having personally first migrated to Bluesky, I think we should advocate for a culture of over boosting and commenting here to bring it to life.
Also, there is a way to do starter packs of people to follow. If you're interested I can fish out details from my timeline.

@Myrtoashe Thanks. I already follow 200+ users, and it’s looking much livelier here now since I switched over to the current instance.

@troos I am still trying to understand how the instances matter. Is it just easier to see interesting stuff and to figure out who to follow if they are in your instance? Are your 200 new people you follow and most of your engagement from your same instance?

@Myrtoashe Yeah, I’m at least as clueless as you concerning the importance of instances. I was told instances don’t matter, but then again, someone suggested that I try to switch before throwing in the towel… The 200 are mostly the same ppl I’ve been following for a while. Engagement seems to be from ppl I haven’t interacted with before.
