Does anyone have a recommendation for a not-totally-atrocious home printer? I would dearly like to be able to live without one but unfortunately it's just too useful (when it works) for both me and my partner.

@clinkingdog we have one of these and it's entirely unremarkable, which is the highest praise I can give a printer: https://store.brother.co.uk/catalogs/brotheruk/devices/laser/hl/hl1110
definitely if you're getting one for occasional use, get a laser printer because then the ink doesn't dry up if you don't use it for a few months

@aparrish @mewo2 @clinkingdog I think a lot about how the Verge did one of those "what is the best printer to buy right now" algorithm-pleasing articles, and they just say "After a full year of not thinking about printers, the best printer is still whatever random Brother laser printer that’s on sale."

@makingarecord @aparrish @clinkingdog honestly this is a model for how all consumer purchases should work
