What’s responsible for fetching images from fediverse posts? Is it my instance or is the client/app reaching out to the origin instance directly?
See a few posts where the images take a long time to download and I get a grey box even when on the home wifi (ice cubes in iOS)

@Dragon your instance fetches it from the original instance, your client fetches from your instance
Tho that could probably be different per fediverse software - but I don't know any doing it differently

@littlefox mines mastodon hosted my mastohost, I think their object storage is sometimes a bit sluggish to respond

It depends also on cache settings as there's little sense in holding on to every image for months, or even that many hours given speed of updates.
