Ancestors

Well, that’s ALMOST all the top sensors installed: lidar, rotary encoder, light sensor, 2x OLEDs, accel/gyro. Just missing the position sensor for the lens rangefinder cam. Thats a lot of electronics gear in a DIY camera.

I realllllly hope this works. 😄😅

@ChadHillPhotos the range finder isn’t coupled, is it, Chad?

Descendants

@Billthoo it IS! This camera is bonkers.

There is a position sensor that reads the rangefinder coupling on the lens. All the UP lenses are pre programmed AND there is a calibration process to fine tune it.

Display in the viewfinder shows a traditional (sort of) moving reticule to indicate focus, And shows text of current lidar measurement and current lens focus distance. Also shows light meter info (and a whole menu system) all in the viewfinder!

I’m so impressed by everything on this.

@Billthoo the heads up display also shows a horizon because it has an accel/gyro sensor. 😅

All the data is there so that the overlay mask COULD also move the frame to compensate for parallax depending on focus distance. It doesn’t currently do that, but I’ve talked to the designer about adding it.

After fitting all the components tonight I am feeling super optimistic about being able to complete it. The build instructions are very good and the design is so well thought out.

@Billthoo yeah, i could not resist trying to build this. It’s so much more camera than any of the other cameras I’ve printed.

If you didn’t see where I posted it below, check out the video intro by the designer here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C63eiv-o6UP/?igsh=MTc2aTZtcGdieGhpYQ==

He also has a bigger version: a coupled rangefinder 4x5 and a better demo of the focusing in the viewfinder: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4gL02moCqT/?igsh=MWQxbG1qeTJrZ2U2eQ==

@ChadHillPhotos @Billthoo ... A bit late to this. Saw your posts about building a 3D printed camera, but that's astounding!

@Billthoo the viewfinder also overlays masks that combine the lens mounted and the format selected (ie 100mm lens and 6x7, or 50mm lens and 35mm), and the rotary encoder in the film advance knob, combined with you indicating which film mask is o stalled (ie 6x7), allows the rear screen to show you haw far to turn the knob (and when to stop) to get correct spacing.

It’s also got an onboard rechargeable battery powered off usb c.
