@ivory @paul Is there a way to permanently deactivate this annoying dialogue box without having to deinstall Ivory (Mac)? Universal Links are the bane of my existence – they almost never do want I want, but always get in the way.

@ttepasse Read the section on “Deactivate Mastodon's Universal Link”: https://tapbots.com/support/ivory/tips/safariextension But for Mac, right click on that blue button and choose "open link” instead of "open in ivory”.

@ivory I did that. Multiple times. It doesn’t work. Newest MacOS, newest Ivory – and I still get that annoying dialogue whenever I try to do some casual browsing on a Mastodon instance.

@ivory @mjtsai does seem to have the same problem: https://mjtsai.com/blog/2024/07/08/ivory-2-0/

@ttepasse @mjtsai And you turned the Ivory Safari extension off as well?
Universal links are kind of tricky and I'm assuming that's what's catching you off guard. The next time you click a link in Safari that tries to open in Ivory, go back to that link, right click it, and hit "Open URL". That should turn off universal links for that domain. Mastodon.social has Ivory set as one of the default apps to open mastodon urls in.

@ivory @mjtsai Ivory Extension deactivated, Ad Blocker deactivated, freshly reloaded tabs – and still universal links wont get turned off by that procedure, neither on mastodon social, nor on tapbots.social.
The worst thing about Universal Links is the lack of user agency. Apple’s worst invention.

@ttepasse @ivory Same here. I tried everything but had to uninstall Ivory for Mac because there was no other way to stop the universal links. My Safari does not have an “Open URL” command in the contextual menu.
