Are you new? Don't know how to find people to follow?

There used to be several tools for finding people from your Twitter network, but I don't think any of them still work now (and realistically most people you know from Twitter aren't here). https://followgraph.vercel.app/ is good for filling in gaps, but you need an existing network for it to help.

My personal advice? Follow artists first. Then you'll have something nice to look at while you build a new network here.

https://fedi.tips/ is a pretty good collection of starter information, and the creator has several accounts that you can follow for tips and recommendations.

Oh, and if you're a desktop user and you're finding the default UI uninspiring, try Phanpy. It's really nice. And it works pretty well on phones as well. https://phanpy.social/ https://github.com/cheeaun/phanpy

Client choice is not just a cosmetic issue: a bad interface can make the network more frustrating and difficult to use.

I absolutely hate it when clicking on a post or user or something takes me away from the timeline view, and Phanpy does not do this -- posts and their replies pop up in an overlay on the side. User previews pop up at the bottom of the page.

It's also smart about threading, and can group boosts in a carousel to de-emphasize them relative to posts from accounts you follow.
