February: the Reichstag Fire Decree suspends 7 articles of the German constitution "until further notice" allowing restriction of "the rights of personal freedom [habeas corpus], freedom of (opinion) expression, including the freedom of the press, the freedom to organize and assemble, the privacy of postal, telegraphic and telephonic communications." and removing limits on search warrants, confiscation orders, and property restrictions

March: The Enabling Act grants the chancellor power to enact laws without Reichstag approval, even unconstitutional laws.

The Provisional Law on the Coordination of the States with the Reich State dissolves existing state parliaments, replacing them with Nazi loyalists.

Communists and other political enemies of the Nazis start being put in concentration camps, including Dachau.

April: The Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service forbids Jewish people, non-Aryans, and Communists or other political opponents of the Nazis from holding government jobs or teaching positions. Across the next 4 months similar laws would apply to medicine, law, and agriculture.

May: Trade unions are shut down, their assets seized, their leaders arrested.

Mass book-burnings kick off with Magnus Hirschfeld's Institut für Sexualwissenschaft.

July: Per the findings of the Expert Committee on Questions of Population and Racial Policy, the Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring is enacted, allowing the sterilization of anyone likely to pass on a "serious physical or mental hereditary defect".

This explicitly includes "congenital mental deficiency", schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, hereditary epilepsy, Huntington's, hereditary blindness, hereditary deafness, any "severe hereditary deformity"... and also alcoholism. Hundreds of "Genetic Health Courts" are established to oversee this. It would go into effect at the beginning of 1934.

Other parties are outlawed; the Nazi party becomes the sole party in Germany.

July (cont'd): The Denaturalization Law givies the government the right to strip the citizenship of "undesirables". This is promptly applied to some 150,000 Jewish people.

September: The Reich Chamber of Culture, led by Goebbels, is created to ensure that all film, music, visual arts, theatre, literature, media, and radio would be consistent with Aryan ideals.
