Flights booked to Japan for September next year, doing a 5 week trip in Hokkaido and Tohoku with a few nights in Tokyo at the start and end. CANNOT WAIT! My itinerary is pretty much planned (but nothing booked yet). Am very open to your recommendations (for sightseeing, food, drink, hotels, anything). Thanks so much and woo hooo!

I probably should have mentioned that this will be our 4th trip to Japan, but first to Hokkaido and Tohoku. So mainly keen to get tips on those regions.

Still open to Tokyo tips that are beyond the normal first timer stuff. We've been to Tokyo on all 3 trips but know there's tonnes we missed.

@g12dcb oooh it's been a while but if you love cooking do visit kappabashi dori, "kitchen town" though really just a few blocks of one street, loads of shops selling cookware and teaware and coffeeware and all sorts

@g12dcb my restaurant recos probably outdated now but we didn't bother with high end sushi as the basic stuff was better than what I had palate and experience to appreciate, so local chain SushiZanmai we really like
