Ancestors

This is the owl icon i've been using for several years now for my personal website and as my avatar in a handful of places. I think it's time he* had a name. What should I name him?

Toot

Okay, so I might be onto something new for my logo... still some refining to do, but I think I like where this is going.

Descendants

I’d totally welcome any critique/improvements from designers. Like should I thicken the glasses more to match the thickness of the “g”? It’s still just a bit more busy than I’d like, but I’m not sure where I could further simplify

@keithjgrant The glasses and owl face are charming and very nice!

I’ll admit my brain is having a bit of trouble parsing their relationship with the descender. It can’t decide if that’s half an owl torso or if the owl is laughing with a very tall mouth.

I’d be interested in seeing a version with a letterform that’s closer in geometry to the owl parts, or vice versa!

(YMMV, no hard feelings if you disagree! 😊)

@tylersticka I totally get that! I've already tried a few different tweaks to the shape of the descender that I haven't liked. I'm actually thinking I might brainstorm some more options without the "g" at all... it already took a lot of failed "G" shapes to get to this one

@keithjgrant The tilt of the letterform while the owl face is straight up/down might also be a factor? May be encouraging my eye to work a bit harder to reconcile the shapes.

@tylersticka And now for something completely different.

(I'm still going to fiddle around with glasses and/or a necktie, but it probably doesn't need them)
