Toot

My late father's Ikonta 524/16 {*} has a VERY daggy case. I've been wondering about buying a "new" one, but the cases I see without cameras are silly prices, and I really don't need another camera. Any suggestions as to what sort of artesan would renovate this? I have the strap but not the top part. #folder #Zeiss #Ikonta #Leather #BelieveInFilm

@carusb

Ask at a shoe repair shop?

@CP93 That's a good call, thanks. There used to be a genuine cobblers in town, but he sold up to Timpsons a few years ago. But I'm pretty sure there are a few in Edinburgh, and my son's visiting next week, he might be able to sort it for me!

@carusb Where I live, it would be my local Amish harness maker. You might see if there's a harness maker near where you live. Another good bet (aside from shoe repair) would be a person who makes leather belts. They're pretty common at craft fairs just about anywhere. (I bet you could just cruise the next craft fair that comes your way and see who's up for it.)

@bosak Thanks Jon. My sister keeps horses, she might have ideas in the harness/saddlery area. But @CP93 reminded me that old-fashioned shoe repairers (cobblers) might also be a good call. I'll keep the belt maker idea in reserve; I suspect their leather work is simpler and more repetitive than the other two.
