@Rich Your mistake is in assuming that a majority of people have common sense. On mine, you don't need to press #, and I don't even know what happens if you do. So if you're supposed to press it, it should be specified. It only takes one delivery driver with your iPhone 17 pro max who has somehow never encountered a keypad where you need to press #. It's one extra character. Why take the chance?

@simon Well, if the code is 1234 and nothing happens when you enter that, what else is there to do apart from pressing Pound?

@Rich Walk away and leave your iPhone on the ground. Claim there was no answer, and then you don't know whether you missed it or they just forgot to press pound. Again, why take the chance? Kinda feels like you're incorporating an attention test into your delivery process, and this is not a hill you should die on. And best case scenario, having to enter codes wastes 15 seconds of delivery drivers' time.

@simon A code is the only way they can get into my grandmother's apartment building, so there's nothing we can do to change that. The delivery person got in fine, but they called for the code even though I added it to the address, and my grandmother made a big thing about me giving the code without the pound.

@Rich Well, I don't know if a big thing needed to be made out of it, but I do think adding the code is a very quick process that avoids anything like this in the future. People should know a lot of things, but they don't, and you can either get annoyed that they don't or just help them along and realize you'll never see or think about it again. Also, We are all very biased in favour of the way we think and the things we know, and something that might seem obvious to one person won't be obvious to another. Even if it's only a 1% chance that a driver will get it wrong, characters are free; just add it.
