As you may have heard, botsin.space is going away: https://muffinlabs.com/posts/2024/10/29/10-29-rip-botsin-space/

I am planning to move the bot to a new server.

Tomorrow's APOD will be posted on that new server, and boosted here. The purpose of this maneuver is to check if the new server can handle delivering a post to all 100k+ of you.

If all goes well, you'll see it as usual, but from a new account.

I will keep you updated.

The new bot has been running fine at @apod@reentry.codl.fr for a few days, so I'm going to migrate this account over to it soon.

You don't have to do anything, once the migration starts you'll automatically follow the new bot and unfollow this one. If you want to follow the new bot ahead of time, it won't hurt to do so.

If you can't see the new bot from your instance or you're having any other problem, please let me know by messaging @codl or emailing codl@codl.fr

@APoD @codl wait, is a boosted post actually delivered from the original server? I always figured the boosting server was responsible for that but I don't know anything

@aburka the boosting server delivers an "Announce" activity to everyone but every recipient has to then fetch the post from the original server. otherwise a malicious server could fabricate boosts of posts that don't exist

@evn (can't say that i would recommend it, i had to rewrite a decent chunk of the bot because the library that i was using didn't like that it wasn't getting a mastodon version number)
