I got to make pizza in the Ooni Volt, their indoor/outdoor electric 12" model. It's fabulous—easy, simple, uniform. The rare modern appliance with a thoughtful UI instead of app/AI nonsense.

Here's a few pies (and focaccia) I made with it:

@neven I was interested until I saw this review. No soup, no buy! 😂

@neven oooh, what kind of temps does it get at full blast? Does it come close to the outdoor grill styles that run hot around 700-900ºF?

@mathowie 850ºF in 20 minutes. It hit 500º for the focaccia in 10. You can control top and bottom heat separately.

@neven holy cow that sounds like a dream appliance!

@neven I just realized this oven only pulls 1600w max and I have an 2kWh battery with a 2400w draw limit so this means I could have awesome pizza on any car camping trip in the future. Amazing.

@neven neat that you can use this inside, too, presumably?

@sdw Oh yeah, that’s exactly what it’s for!

@neven You don’t happen to know if there are gluten-free dough recipes out there that would bake well in this, do you? New to having a celiac kid, finding it tough for pizza.

@unsoluble I don’t have much experience with GF baking, I’m afraid. My thinking is that high-temp recipes will be hard, and I’d focus on pan-type recipes.

@neven that focaccia looks intense, whole garlic cloves!?

@neven Hi Neven, I switched from a Koda 14 to a 16 for the bigger pizzas just to discover that my family prefers smaller ones. What is your experience regarding how well smaller pizzas are excepted among grown-ups?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from yves@luther.social
@yves I’m not totally sure what the difference even is… 😅 Do they bake up differently?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from neven@pdx.social
@neven Nope it's just their size. To ask simpler: is one pizza that fits in an Ooni Volt enough for one person?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from yves@luther.social
@yves Yeah, 12” is what a nice fancy spot would serve

@neven Big THX! Two last questions: do you still need to rotate the pizza like in the L shaped gas ovens and how effective is the bottom heating compared to the gas powered Oonis?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from yves@luther.social
@yves No turning needed! You can control the top/bottom heat balance; and also you can set the temp lower, so you can make sure the bottom is done. I made focaccia in it, baking for 16 minutes.
