Alright #solarpunk. Some people think we're small beans. Let me tell you about a beanstalk I'm currently climbing.
I work for a nonprofit community action agency in Montana. I'm working on sustainable, affordable, low-income housing using new technology: 3D-printing. Building with structural-sized machines reduces waste, cuts build time, and uses locally-sourced materials, making the project both affordable and sustainable.

The flexibility of 3D printing can adapt to the community’s needs, and we’re integrating community gardens, passive solar designs, and community education into the build project.
All through a nonprofit that’s been serving my community since the '70s, these affordable units will be built without profit requirements and corporate control.

This is not techosolutionism. This is the first step in changing how we live - towards sustainability, resilience in the face of climate change, and helping people who desperately need help to live better lives while benefitting the environment. This technology is a tool to use, not a cure-all.
[#]solarpunk is about taking steps towards a better future using what we have today. Start your garden, take a gift to your neighbors, and get involved in your community.

If you want more information about my project - affordable solarpunk housing built by not-for-profit organizations using 3D printing technology - then follow me here on Mastodon. I'll say more when I have more prepared to share.
Also, thank you #solarpunk Mastodon. I like this lil' community of nerds, techies, and environmentalists. As someone from more of a blue-collar background, you do a good job of making me feel welcome here.
Dream big dreams, solarpunks. Tank out.
