@punktrock I would say you stop doing that after some practice but uh. You do not. You just catch yourself sooner, is all.

@emery

I'm still not sure if I feel reassured now or not. Like, on the one hand - hah! It' not just a beginner mistake that more experienced folks sagely shake their heads about! They too fall victim to the curse of Wrong Direction!! But on the other hand - would also be useful to at some point NOT do it anymore. Ah well, would be boring if everything just went right!

@punktrock β€œThe only difference between an experienced knitter and new knitter is that the experienced knitter makes bigger mistakes faster. Be bold; there are no terrible consequences in knitting.”

Starting to knit in the wrong direction IS a beginner mistake that, I promise, you will make less often as you get more experience. But I can't promise you'll never do it again ;) It's also easier as the sock gets longer and doesn't try to turn itself inside-out as much.

The last time I did this was on a hat; I'd cast on 160 stitches of sock-weight yarn and knit 4" of ribbing. It turned itself inside-out when I took the project out of the bag and because it was ribbing, I couldn't tell - so I blissfully started off on the wrong side. Whups.
