Toot

I have implemented some undocumented quirks and glitches of the Atari ST's floppy disk controller in #zeST.

It now fully supports the Union demo's copy protection. Now one can run the internal copy program and copy the demo to another floppy image file! 😅

@gunstick wow, very interesting, thank you !

I tried to get a copy but none of the links on the page are either working or are actually referencing the book.

@zerkman

I've always been under the impression that Dr CoolZic "knew it all" - but Zerkman's work here is waaaaaay more advanced than anything I've ever looked at so.

@troed @gunstick The latest changes in the zeST source code (see on GitHub!) are direct translations of that A-F topic. I must not forget to credit him in the next zeST release.

@zerkman @troed the Kleisterscheibe covered a lot of quirks of the FDC, but I cant remember if it also did the sync&index conflict.

But it had a section on how to write your own floppy protection. I.e. similar to the one in the union demo.

Had some nice gui tools to read write sectors and tracks and to build your own format.

Inventor of the 11 sector hyperformat. Which in turn is almost not copyable. Even kryoflux has its problems, taking an image but transforming it into a usable image is hard.
