Toot

OK, so it looks like #Twitter is exploding (again), and a lot of the people I used to follow are going over to #BlueSky - for those that use it, is it worth making a new account over there? :blobcatthink:

I love Mastodon to bits, so I'm very hesitant to make another social media profile. Will it be possible to follow Bluesky accounts from here in the future, does anyone know? :blobcatopenmouth:

@drwhut most likely it won’t be possible to follow bluesky accounts from here (unless bots for relaying bluesky accounts become a thing like it used to be with twitter, but that would be follow only of course), since they are two different protocols.

Also I have an account on bluesky it’s… fine? But I don’t really hesitate to make accounts in places myself

@cheri Gotchya - from what I can tell, it seems to be becoming more of a "mainstream" option for ex-Twitter users, but it still has the exact same issue in that a handful of people can tank the entire platform in the future, which Mastodon has a inherent defense against.

If it ends up becoming the new platform, then I'll consider it for sure. I just wish there was some way to inter-connect them so I can just focus on Mastodon :blobcatgooglycry:

@drwhut Honestly, I've always been hesitant when it comes to joining new sites, but that's me.

@drwhut It's possible, but unlikely, that Bluesky and the Fediverse will be fully federated someday, but there are bridges such as Bridgy Fed that make it possible for users from both to interact.

However, it's opt-in, so only a small percentage of users know about it, let alone use it. You can ask Bsky users to do it, but they may not want to. 🙁

If you do decide to make a Bsky account, though, make sure to use the feeds to find content you like! 😊

@carinabr Ah, that's very handy to know, thank you!

I'll keep that in mind if I ever end up making an account there :blobcatthumbsup:

@drwhut Yes. I like both sites, BlueSky is trying something different from Mastodon, and they seem to be making a much more honest try at it, since Dorsey got driven off and away from the site last year.

You can already follow people from Bluesky here if they’ve used the bridge (mentioned in another post) and vice versa BUT it’s not interactive (similar to federation with Threads)

It’s definitely worth checking out, IMO.
