@irfan @Binder I recognize that DS9 is by most standards “better,” but I prefer TNG. Maybe it’s just DS9’s sedate pace during its early seasons, but there’s a reason I call it “Deep Sleep 9.” Definitely a me problem, but there you go.

@irfan While DS9 is better as a story (and more of a story), TNG is definitely more "standard" Star Trek. I prefer the relatively stronger idealistic optimism in TNG to the darker tone of DS9. I also enjoy its episodic nature more than DS9's stronger overarching plot because it makes it easier to hop around watching random episodes.
For similar reasons I prefer Strange New Worlds to Discovery. I should probably watch some Lower Decks so I can figure out if I like Star Trek as more of a comedy.
Until they are most likely dashed I will hold on to hopes that the series aggressively teased by the end of Picard will be made and actually be quality episodic Trek.

@irfan (I will admit I am a Seven of Nine stan and I will have to restrain my excitement if she ever gets to do the Final Frontier speech.)

@irfan TNG if I need the warm blanket of Technooptimistic-Yet-Sceptic nostalgia, DS9 if I feel more adventurous. Certainly, DS9 is more mature and based on that more artistically enjoyable, and I do love re-watching it. It's a treasure, but TNG takes me to that more innocent happy place. I watch TNG if i need cozy and DS9 when I just want to watch good and complex story telling.
