What video games have a good approach for helping out people who’d like to continue playing after some time away from the game? It seems like a hard but soluble problem, yet most games don’t make any effort to assist that situation.

@dpiponi Do they have story recaps, too? I think about the way TV shows handle this, and I can imagine games having periodic chapter-like breaks where there’s an option to recapitulate story elements, give an overview of goals, and review gameplay mechanics.

@acowley Now I'm wondering if some of the useless conversations you can have with NPCs are intended to refresh your memory. The game also does a good job of keeping track of and describing your current quests. I haven't played for a few months so I ought to return and see... :)

@dpiponi Having NPCs do this sounds really slick, but also maybe too slick as false positives are annoying and break immersion (where you just jam the skip conversation button until you can get away).
