I have a conversation podcast with 3 spoken tracks.

Can any @ardour user tell me what is the best way to manually mute a track when a person is not speaking? (expander/compressor plugin won't work, too much noise…)

@benjaminbellamy You can mute/unmute selected regions with Alt+1 shortcut.

But that means I have to cut the track into the pieces I want to mute first, right?

(The range mode does not allow muting)

@benjaminbellamy Correct. Muting is on/off per region. You could use a plugin that applies some fade in/out ("slow mute"?).
