I saw a male ally in a thread about abortion saying he shouldn’t need to understand the medicine as it’s not his body, so it shouldn’t be his say… and like this makes me mad. We should all try to understand what’s at stake around reproductive care. We should all try to understand what’s at stake around gender affirming carewhat’s.
Just because you lack a uterus, or because you’re not trans doesn’t mean you shouldn’t understand at some mature adult level. Remaining intentionally ignorant because “I shouldn’t be the one to decide what you do with your body” is far better than wanting to regulate others’ bodies.
But it’s the sort of willful ignorance that lets the bigots and the malevolents spew credible sounding propaganda unchallenged. That position is as bad as the just choosing not to vote because you think both candidates are bad.
Sure, you’re not supporting evil. But you’re not actually fighting it and it’s hard to call that any form of actual allyship.
