Ancestors

It may be hard to remember now, but there was a time before many of us knew how terrible Elon Musk is.

I still remember the first moment I knew he was shitty. There have been so many awful things since then, and this seems small in comparison, but at the time I found it very telling about his character.

Toot

Written by Sci-Fi Girl on 2024-09-30 at 13:10

Musk was posting on Twitter, some years before he bought and ruined it.

He posted an image, I don't even remember what it was, but it must have been a piece of artwork.

Someone replied: "Credit the artist please?"

And Musk answered: "No."

That's it. no

Now, simply being careless, and not bothering to take the time to find the artist to credit, is bad enough.

But this man, who must have had tons of followers, took the time to answer, and obstinantly refuse on principle! 😬

Descendants

I must have had some inkling already at the trash that was Musk, but this was a singular moment that I could point to.

I realized how much he was truly like Edison, stealing from Nikola Tesla all over again ... As well as from everyone else! 😯

I am sure we all had this realization in different ways, and possibly in very different years. But I suspect we each have a story. 😔

@5ciFiGirl the delughtful irony is that there's a Canadian company, Edison motors, who's tagline is "stealing Tesla's ideas" - they have built a diesel electric hybrid semi, since Tesla couldn't figure it out. And they're actually pretty decent human beings from what I can tell

@5ciFiGirl My first moment came through Top Gear and how petulant Musk was in criticism of Teslas. Given the cars' flaws, it was a red flag of an egotist without a serious stake in engineering. Musk's bit was a flashy con of futurism standing next to other small companies who genuinely tried innovating (and could be human about the process.)

Everything that followed over the decade was a further spiral into this dynamic, littered with failed promises and impotent hype.
