Some thoughts on music services but mostly their apps.

Well mostly Tidal actually...

I prefer the desktop app to Apple Music - looks better, easier to use, I think it sounds better and is much better at surfacing or recommending new music*.

iOS app seems fine although I've not used it in anger yet.

Biggest issue is CarPlay - the whole app appears to be a web app and even the UI doesn’t load without mobile coverage. Not good.

@jonhicks yeah, we have no signal where I live and it's just a black screen until I get coverage.

It’s a bit shit and probably a deal breaker. I really don’t want to run Apple Music and Tidal side by side…

@davidhughes come up against this a lot this week touring Sussex. Hadn’t been much of an issue before but now it is! Had to revert to Apple Music. Where are you at with streaming services at the moment?

@jonhicks my Tidal subscription lapsed this week…

I prefer the desktop app, it’s so much better, but CarPlay was a deal breaker.

And oddly I’m so used to using Sleeve on the desktop not having that was a lot of friction as well.

I seriously contemplated having both, but that way madness lies…

Basically Apple need to employ you and me and let us Make Music Great Again*

@jonhicks something else Tidal did well was play nicely with my Sonos speakers…

The Sonos app ‘update’ plus Apple Music makes for an infuriating experience.

I might just have to use both 🙄
