Genuine question, why is it even possible to arrange files in a messy way like this in #macOS? how is that useful to anyone

@sotneStatue Because Apple haven't yet devised a sufficiently high-handed reason for stopping us doing that, and they don't want to waste the opportunity.

@sotneStatue It’s part of the “desktop metaphor” which allows Finder to lay out documents like papers on a real desk.

It can be quite useful when trying to organise documents quickly regardless of their metadata.
