I’ve been exploring how RDF can be used in modern web development process over the last few years (beyond just putting schema.org on your page for the Goog) and I’m collecting these experiments at https://rdf.systems/

I’ve got a sample of using Solid to authenticate an entirely client side, static, vanilla js web application: https://solid-authentication.rdf.systems/

I’ve also started writing docs and spec for a “Firebase but for Solid” https://solidstate-kv.rdf.systems/

@nk This is a very neat idea. I had always hoped to replace something like @remotestorage with Solid, given non-RDF data can be written and retrieved. Authenticating against Solid without doing whole Solid seems like a fair approach.

@nk

there's more like this. https://unhosted.org https://nobackend.org

@rosano made some fab. RS apps and collects on https://0data.app

@raucao still maintains 5apps.com tirelessly

The related movement on https://localfirstweb.dev/ is known to you, too?

@yala @nk @rosano Actually, at 5apps we're preparing for an exit to community, and we already added auth support for our open-source RS API to the open-source accounts app over at @kosmos (where we already offer RS accounts, too).

Also, there's an open PR to add SOLID support to remoteStorage.js:

@raucao @yala blowing my mind. What’s the reason for the exit? I’m thinking about your business model (maybe paid accounts?) for solid - subs for the auth and storage provider, make apps, and sell consulting services. Has that been workable?

@nk @yala It's still entirely free on 5apps, but we want it all to be open-source and self-hostable for prime time. On Kosmos, it'll be financed by donations from active account users, and the work model will be an open co-operative instead of a normal company.

@nk @yala The Solid PR is coming from Solid people. It's not something we currently host at Kosmos, and there are no immediate plans for it as of now. Someone with enough Solid experience would have to contribute their time and expertise for us to be hosting Solid pods.
