✍️ New post! How I take notes + use Obsidian.

I don't care about fancy features like backlinks, canvas… I like Obsidian because it's fast, minimal, customizable, works with Markdown files, and has a good enough mobile app.

At the same time, I've slowly grown towards a more consistent way of taking and organizing notes. While I'm using Obsidian, it's a system that can easily be ported to any other tool as long as you have something that resembles a filesystem.

@sebdd I like this simple approach! Maybe I should go back to basics.

I gave in last year and started using properties and Dataview. But I basically just use them to display a list of meeting I had with other folks.

But that info would also work with backlinks and the existing native plugins. 🤔

(Excalidraw added quite a lot to my boot time; replaced it with the native Canvas plugin, but I only had like 2-3 drawings)

@stefanzweifel Wow that’s a significant difference in startup time without Excalidraw, didn't realize that was the culprit causing the loading bar 😅

Disabled it too now, don't use it often enough in Obsidian to warrant it, I can always embed a PNG and link to the drawing.

@sebdd I noticed a long start up time as well and enabled "Community plugins” → "Debug startup time” and saw the high startup time.

My biggest issue right now is macOS offloading my .obsidian folder from time to time. But I think the next macOS version should finally fix that by adding a “Keep downloaded" option. (At least iOS 18 has it)
