Been thinking about motivation recently. Doing things for God vs. Doing things for Humanity. Such as Fasting in private (to God) or Fasting in public as activism (to Humanity). Not really an "either/or" but an "and". Love the Lord your God, Love your Neighbour, Do unto others...

@Aslanmane this is why I prefer humanism to any type of deism.
I can have faith that my fellow humans can make the world a better place, (even if the reality is that our current society is just churning out selfish arseholes).
If I shift responsibility to a Deity or a religious institution, I would be relinquishing that responsibility to others.

@Salvo I struggled to find the connection between your comment and mine :). For me Utility is a secondary motivation, virtue is my primary. My love for God and humanity are joint.
